With our regard of green tea well known, we wanted to bring our diverse sets of friends together in a place where we could all enjoy a good cup of tea together. We do it often enough in bits and pieces and the times were always merry, so why not bring these friendly factions together in a chilled setting and see what becomes of it?
We began by trying to be a little too clever. We decided to host a competition at our home studio to see if we could compare various selections and judge what the best green tea was amongst us. We called it The Satirical Cannabis Cup, based on the popular marijuana growing competition in Amsterdam. Obviously we would not be growing our tea, we'd just be bringing the best brand of tea bags we had come across in the city.
Following the fun time had at that one, one fallout was that people online looking for information on the real one, actually thought we were the real cannabis cup and that was not the intent. We wanted something more representative of what we were trying to do, and "green tea party" was one of the leading ideas. However, it didn't have the ring of just the "green party", not to be confused with the worldwide green-friendly political parties, and so the shorter name stuck.
Our second green party, and first under the new name, was outdoors, in a dome we built on a patio in full skyline and Lake Ontario view. It was a totally chilled affair.
The idea became a little more serious when two recent acquaintances had the opportunity to bring a large set of different friends together in an unblemished studio environment, merging cultures, subcultures, personalities to the extreme. It was our third green party, and the most enduringly exciting so far.
We erected this small website within a week of the third party to coordinate information and maintain a permanent gallery of parties past, bring our community together and look forward to new experiences ahead.
What's to come? We look forward to 2005 to bring us together again, in whatever setting it may be, as we continue the quest for unity, for peace within, and for us to wake up excited every day because there is something really worth living for. It's happening to you. |
